Re: MEDICOM ULTRAMAN STUFF
Just got the reprint Ultraman Jack today, and I must say, the difference is quite stunning.
This isn't a full review because I didn't bother with the articulation and I don't have good equipment to take good pictures.
First of, the box. Nothing much to say here, only the flap is now a magnet instead of Velcro
Mail-away items are no longer there obviously.
Velcro on the old box
Magnets on the new
The biggest difference lies in the physique of the torso, most noticeably shoulder, chest, and the neck.
The old version is on the left. The shoulder on the old is way to slanted.
old (front)
new (front)
On the old, the neck is too thick and the chest bulges out too much; hence giving it a really awkward look.
old (left)
new (left)
old (right)
new (right)

I'm not sure whether my old one just happen to be terrible or it's a common problem with everybody. One thing I do know is that the old one came like this. I tried to move around the arms and shoulder, but it did not fix the problem. Even if it did, the neck is still way too thick. I also have the same problem on my Ultraman Ace. Hopefully Medicom will reprint that next.
So if anyone else have the same problem with your Jack, you might wanna consider getting the reprint while its still cheap.
Thanks for looking

Re: MEDICOM ULTRAMAN STUFF
thanks for the pix xirality! I was under the assumption that it was just a re-issue, but looks like its an upgrade (kinda like ultraseven 2.0)! That's awesome.

Re: MEDICOM ULTRAMAN STUFF
Actually I'd say the re-issue Jack is more like the re-issue Ultra 80. Just minor fixes here and there. Ultraseven 2.0 is an entire make over, which was also nice.
Btw, did anybody happen to pick up Ultraman Dyna? He's been out for awhile but I haven't seen anybody posting about it.
It took me awhile to find these pictures from some Japanese bloggers, and some of them are quite small...
some more from another blog
Like Mebius, it looks like Dyna also suffers the exposed wrist problem, but somehow Dyna can retain his overall physique like in the proto. Still pretty nice.
Too bad my budget for the rest of the year is all devoted to Hot Toys, otherwise I'd consider getting this one too

Post as many million times as you want, Xirality! We have no silly rules or etiquette like that here (from Kaido, biggest post whore of Mediworld).

Re: MEDICOM ULTRAMAN STUFF
hi all,
Ultraman Ace being restocked at amiami. I have no news from anywhere about this re-issue, except that its on for preorder right now for a late July release.
Seeing how the re-issue Ultraman Jack got a tremendous upgrade, I'm gonna bite it and get the Ace too.
3Q-11 cannot be good for my wallet...Hot Toys Jack Sparrow, Indiana Jones, Captain America, Spider-man, New Goblin, and now Ace plus a high probability of getting the new HT Batman Begins from some f&%#ing eBay scalper...

Re: MEDICOM ULTRAMAN STUFF
Ouch, my heart goes out to you just hearing you rattle out that extensive list, Xirality! Any figures there you can trim off?

Re: MEDICOM ULTRAMAN STUFF
Thanks for the concern, Kaido.
The New Goblin and the Indiana Jones is most likely gonna be trimmed...
I guess I'm just bitter over this whole limited Batman thing. I'm sure I'm not the only one who have to cut other regular Hot Toys figures from later this year only to fit my budget for the new Bats from some evil scalper.
Why would Hot Toys do that to themselves and fans only to benefit scalpers? It bothers me to no end...

Re: MEDICOM ULTRAMAN STUFF
I guess in the end they don't worry about that kind of stuff... they have their numbers and targets they have to project and forecast and are happy so long as they sell out their units, and scalpers, well, they do what they do. Most of the figures will be bought by fans, but some will be bought by people who fully intend to flip the figure.
I guess the scalpers sort of provide a service to make a figure available to those of us who can't get it easily. Then, it's the fans ourselves who kind of bid against one another and drive the prices up. It's just one of those things about our hobby. As well, scalpers definition is tough to say as even normal collectors will be in the right place right time, see a desired figure they have no interest in, but pick it up anyway... part of the appeal of collecting is getting what you personally like, but also getting something that others treasure.
Most people (myself included) would be lying to say that if they got a hot hot hot figure that skyrocketed up in value that they'd go and list it as a "buy it now" for what they paid for it.
Batman probably won't be that limited, just budget a few extra bucks, be vigilant, and strike early! Good luck to you, man!

Re: MEDICOM ULTRAMAN STUFF
Thanks Kaido, that's some deep stuff man.
Though I must agree with you: In the past I did pick up some toys (not necessarily 12" fig) not because I like them but because I know they are going to be highly sought after. I don't plan on reselling them, but they weren't "must-haves" for me either.
Oh wells. Let's see if I'll get any luck on my tax return lol.
