Re: Sideshow LOTR Legolas
When I first saw the proto I thought it looked like one of the best 1/6 figures ever with an amazing sculpt but like many other recent 1/6 offerings from Sideshow the final piece is well short of that and it just reinforces my view that their 1/6 figures are far from being the "high end" pieces that the diehards would have us believe. I'm sure if you were to get a non figure collector to look at 1 figure from all the leading 1/6 manufacturers that the Sideshow figure would get picked out as being the poorest quality, but as PBK says you try suggesting that on SSF and the place goes nuclear.
There's a fine line between being passionate about something and just being ignorant and many people there seem to be leaning towards the ignorant side of things.

Re: Sideshow LOTR Legolas
I think the SS fanboys love the licenses that Sideshow get more than the finished products. They do have some amazing lines. Some hard to get ones aswell, and fans are probably anxious that it will be a long time before they see another company make "high end" 1/6 scale figures from these lines.
So they try to make excuses for the rubbish they've received. They really really WANT to like what they get. But the reality is, it's poor. And sideshow are capitalizing by producing substandard crap over and over again. And they'll get away with it too because of those pesky kids. The ones who go nuts when someone expresses an honest opinion about some of the junk sideshow end up delivering. Honest opinions destroy their illusions that they have a beautfiul piece of work of a character they love.
For god's sake, look at the difference in their proto and product pics. It's like comparing keira knightley to Barbara Streisand.
I'm not saying Medicom or Hot Toys don't have their faults, but overall their work is far more consistent. And I've never heard fans of either of these 2 companies go so collectively schizo when someone criticizes their products. Methinks the Sideshow fans protest too much. They're offended by peoples' critcisms for one reason only - they are in denial. Deep down they know Sideshow sucks.

My wife for example, she doesn't look at these things twice and doesn't care, but when she's asked, she says that the SS stuff is the lesser (with the exception of PF'S and some of the vintage horror) and that my Medicom one's are waaayy better. That's fromher mouth. She hates when I buy SS even if I actually like it, like SS Luke, LOVE IT, she thinks he looks like someone who just got a labotomy and can't understand why they CHOSE that face. Again, I like it, but this is from a party who really doesn't care.

Re: Sideshow LOTR Legolas
Pics from OSW
http://www.onesixthwarriors.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62194
[QUOTE=markecho]Got Legolas today and gotta say headsculpt looks great to me!
He even has a little bit of a scowl (hard to see in pics but when you see him up close you will know what I mean). All the accessories look great, and even a nice bow pulling hand. For some reason his 2 left hands look the same, but I ended up using the second one and it looks better holding the bow. One thing that kinda ain't so good is that just after a few hours the bow was bent into this position making the string sag if the bow string was not pulled, but I guess most poses of Legoas will be with a strung arrow...and maybe the hot water trick will be able to get the bow back more straight if need be.
With a little of fudging he can have an excellent shooting pose..of course-he is Legolas! I didn't get it here because I was loosing light - but you get the idea. Hardest part is getting his head to tilt down a bit like he is aiming.
All in all awesome fig!
Of course these aren't film accurate, but Leg just looks much better with a cloak!

Yeah, looks pretty awesome to me too. I totally see Orlando in that headsculpt. I just got my tracking number for mine, so the exclusive version should be in my grubby little mitts tomorrow!

Re: Sideshow LOTR Legolas
I agree those pics do make it look pretty good, I actually see OB in the sculpt. My only gripe is that his chin looks a little pudgy. I am actually considering this now.

Re: Sideshow LOTR Legolas
Nah!
More Jimmy Hill than Orlando Bloom.
I'm just not getting it!
Cool outfit an all that. But at the end of the day it's another SST body with a half way there sculpt.....what am I saying, I'll probably get it if I can snag for a good price but SST are capable of better.
