Unless they get better I predict DC Direct will lead the way in crappy Superman products. You'd think they'd take better care of their most iconic character.

I'm sure some might say that I enjoyed doing that to a Superman figure. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I'm just tired of my favorite character being given such terrible merchandise. From those terrible Mattel Superman Returns Figures to that recently released DC Direct 1/4 Museum Quality statue he's been on the receiving end of such terrible products. It's a frustrating process that leaves this one Superman fan expecting the worse instead of hoping for the best.

And now I give you this. The first DC Direct 13" Superman. I could write an opus on what is wrong with him but I don't wish to waste any more of my time on this. In all honestly I don't know what some see in this figure. Is it because of the accessories? That's all I hear people talk about. No one talks about the sculpt, no one talks about the articulation. He doesn't come with anything that's actually high quality. People just talk about the extra set of clothes (which I guess for some is a good substitute for quality). I've come to notice that 2006 was the year of the acceptance and praising of mediocrity and this figure fits right in with that. Sadder is that it's not even at the level of mediocrity.

Feel free to click the link above to take you directly to the gallery of the worst 1/6 of the year. Sadly enough I look at the recently released Aquaman and Batman and I can say that they don't look too bad. Definitely a step or two above their first 13" offering. In March they plan on releasing this doll again with a different head. The head is a huge improvement over the original one. But if the QC is just as bad then what's the point?

I believe it was the vastly Superior Beast Wars version of Megatron that said "New packaging, same product. Loser." I think that sums up my feelings well enough.

At least with Mattel the price reflects the quality of the item.

DCD really needs to get in the game with the modern world of collectibles because so far they're getting their arses kicked on all fronts.

I mean those "Museum Quality" statues are just horrendous pieces especially for a $300 plus price point, it's just not on.

Look at the difference in quality between those and say a Marvel PF from Sideshow, the worst of Sideshow's stuff beats the best of DCD's hands down.

Lots of collectors on the boards I visit are really pissed off with DCD, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find they're days are numbered.

Then DC can finally sell the license to SSC, GG etc.

Who'll do something WORTH DOING with such a great collection of characters.....

Oh and BTW the cartoon was funny as well
 emoticon

You've just earned yourself a karma point for that rant my friend.

I really wish DC would let others have a crack at their licenses. We've seen what other manufacturers like Hot Toys, Kotobukiya, Medicom and Takara can do with DC characters and it's a shame that more isn't being done.

Thanks for good karma Gatack emoticon

Shame we can't remove a Karma point from DCD everytime they release another half assed Batman or Superman product :spiderman

The really frustrating thing is if DCD would just give the license to a decent collectible company I'd buy so much Batman stuff.

Moneys on the table they're just not taking it.

what i don't get is why DCD went with the n13" scale as well,... so foolish of them as the market nowadays are filled with 1/6 or 12" figures,....
and the inner body is ohg so horrible,...
doesn't feel like a proper 1/6 scale figure,.. just feels like an oversized of the normal 6" DCD figure.
why can't they get things right,....
man, what i would pay for a proper 12" batman, superman, green lantern, flash, etc....

I'm not really against the scale aspect of their dolls it's just the quality. Yeah the bodies are horrible. The first Superman was garbage. The ones that aren't garbage are just ok. But the Catwoman and Nightwing look horrid. Grayson looks terrible. I doubt Supeman V2 will be much better.

Bright side is that there are other companies doing quality 12". So DCD isn't something we really have to rely on.

Oh and welcome to the forum.
