That is a true work of art man. I gotta ask you, did you have a painting background before you started doing these? Is there any hope for a non-talented guy like myself? :roflrofl :roflrofl
I do not have a professional painting background, just lots of practice. I've always been artistically inclined, but leaing more towards sculpture and sketching than painting. I've been customizing figures for about ten years now, and I just started doing it seriously as a sidebusiness to help my fellow collectors AND to help me pay for the toy addiction.
If you want to start customizing your own figures, a great place to start is Tony DiTerlizzi's 12" Customs . He has a great tutorial for beginners, and his techniques are simple, and are still the basis for my own technique (which I hope has advanced quite a bit since then.)

I am simply amazed. Hard to do with me and well you have done it. Love the Vader repaint and Captain Jack. Your Penguin however is what really is amazing. All that from basically scratch is talent. :speederbike

Re: Customikey's Medicom Repaints
Thanks guys! I'm just getting into Medicoms. The price is too prohibitive and I have too little space to acquire a huge collection, but I love getting these one or two magnificent pieces for display!
If you're not also a member of the Sideshow Freaks board, you probably don't know that I take commissioned work. Just email me if you are interested!
By the way, I know the big problem with ROTJ Vader has been how his dome flies off if you look at it funny. I solved that problem in (I think) a fairly ingenious way. You can do this yourself, or I can do it for you: I dremelled off the nub in the dome and glued the round version of the super-strong little magnets you can get at the Container Store exactly in it's place. It's about the same depth as the nub was, so the height of the dome relative to the mask should remain unchanged when it's all done. Then I took one of the flat magnets that holds the Sideshow Star Wars box closed and glued that inside the mask. Together, they are plenty strong enough to keep the dome on and centered. The magnet in the mask is flat enough not to screw with the head, and is virtually invisible even when Vader is in ESB mode. I imagine this would also work fine with the ROTS version.
Hope this helps!

Re: Customikey's Medicom Repaints
You're welcome. Just make sure, if you plan to do this yourself, that you put the magnets in the right way so that they don't repel one another! :lol

Re: Customikey's Medicom Repaints
That's a cool idea using small magnets to keep Vader's helmet from falling off,I'll possibly do the same if I have the same issue with my ROTJ Vader when it arrives. Great work on your first Medicom repaints Mikey,so far I've been OK with the production paintjobs on the RAH figures I've bought but a good custom job always tends to look better because the painter has more time to spend on a single figure than they do in a factory.
