Do you know what's wrong with sideshow.

I like this company alot. they put out some really cool collectibles and give us collectors a chance to get stuff that are not readily available to us. But what i think is happening is there growing to fast ,merging with companies that are in trouble or were not doing that [sign in to see URL] tiki.i like being able to get medicom and hot toys at a reasonable price. but to me there just becoming a warehouse distributor and there going to lose loyal collectors and fans if they don't go back to what made them who they are. where is the horror stuff or a new dracula or frankenstein. What about a premium format creature from the black lagoon. this is the 75th anniversary of this [sign in to see URL] happen to the artist that could actually sculpt the faces.

I think Sideshow is a great company. Their busts, statues are excellent and the premieum format is just amazing.
All of us can acknowledge that.

I guess the main problem with the medis and Hot Toys collector is that Sideshow is lacking in the 1/6 area. Distributin figures from Hot Toys and Medicom has made SS fans realise in the gulf in quality and design of the 12" figures.

BUT, Sideshow does make these figures at almost half price of the medi figures they are distributing, so it's very affordable. emoticon

For them to try and get a figure out every month seems to mean taking short cuts where ever possible. I've noticed alot of re-used clothing items. (buffy and faith both have the same leather pants Han and luke have the same boots, all the jedi robes are the same except mace and Plo.) They dont take the time to tailor outfits specifically for the character. However if you look at the recently released Cordeilia figure, the clothing was tailored speicfially for the figure the problem with it was paint apps.

Sideshow has definatly got some amazing artists I dont think anyone can sit there and say the paint on a Prototype has sucked. The thing is that they show us this spectacular prototype and then the paint we get on the production figure isnt that great, if the factory cant re-produce the complex paint job thats fine all we ask to see a more reasonable represntation of what we can expect upon placing an order. Yes Sideshow allows returns but your still out whatever shipping is both ways. You can cancel but often times the Production samples arrive at the same time as the production figures.

Medicom and Hot Toys presnt us with a reasonable represntation of what we can expect when the product arrives. Yes sometimes in order to do this both companies use very simple paint jobs but they work. Sometimes the production figure looks alot better then the prototype shown (Medicom Superman the prototype costume wasnt as nice as the final).

I just think that overall Sideshow could afford to take some more time with thier 1:6 figures and make them the quality of the 1:4 scale figures. Delays suck for sure but people dont remeber the delay when the figure was amazing and worth the wait. If Sideshow put out the smae quality in 1:6 as they do in 1:4 then perhaps they would be the best collectable company around.

With all that SS does it is hard to argue that they are not the best overall collectible company in the world right now. Sure their 1/6th scale figures could use some work and if they did "slowdown" they probally could improve but they seem to have found a loyal following and everyone blows smoke up their butts so why improve if they already think their the best.

i only hope they keep going .i know they here the bitching alot. i complained a couple times to them about stuff. they do [sign in to see URL] if they could create the han solo and luke skywalker that they did in 1/4 scale for us in 2007 to commemorate the 30th anniversary or give us chewbacca and the droids.i would just be happy for the effort. i do think there doing a good job. sure if they slowed down pumping out figures. i have had pass and wait on certain ones. But i think they really impressed everybody with jabba the [sign in to see URL] gentle giant is doing one. But honestly it's not better [sign in to see URL] just has more figures coming with it. when it boils down to it with the starwars line. george lucas has more of a say then we think. But i am happy.I am in my thirties finally getting collectors items that i dreamed about or thought about when i was younger...

I think some of the older fans are feeling a little betrayed by SSC's complete lack of concentration on some of their established 1/6 lines.

Pre Star Wars, SSC was best known for their horror, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and X Files lines, yet all of these seem to have ground to a halt.

I love SW as much as the next guy and Marvel a hell of a lot more than most guys, but the two licenses and imports seem to be all SSC is concerntrating on these days, I agree we need to see them taking care of some of their original licenses. Moving onto bigger things shouldn't mean forgetting what made you great in the first place, give some of those Buffy and X Files fans a little respect huh SST?

The problem is that when Sideshow does release something from one of these lines its usually a figure that makes you scarth your head as to why they did it or why they did it in that fashion. I think most people are starting to accept that the only 1/6 stuff they will produce will be Star Wars and LOTR which sucks since I would like to have seen some more Buffy figures.

Re: Do you know what's wrong with sideshow.

My only issue with Sideshow is the 1/6 figures, especially the SW ones as that's my main area of intrest.
I think their PF's,1:1 busts and dioramas are among the best collectibles money can buy but despite having so much promise the 1/6 SW line is going downhill rapidly IMO. Whether it's the mediocre quality of pretty much all the figures that aren't a unique body sculpt, the questionable character choices and the lame excuses for the lack of armored or other supposedly complicated characters it seems that SSC aren't putting the effort they should be into really getting the most from the license.
It could be argued that they don't need to as many SW fans will buy regardless of quality but when you look at how good Medicom's few RAH SW figures are in comparison to SSC's it makes you wonder what they could do if they went full throttle with the SW license and released more unmasked humans, aliens and droids.
