Re: Comics- The Good The Bad and The Ugly

Never seen anything related to Battle Royale. I'll have to check it out.

Violence and gore almost never bothers me. I just sat through Human Centipede 2 and found it more funny than anything, except a scene where tendons/ligaments are ripped out of a knee in graphic detail. I've got a bad knee and mutilation to knees and tendons always just grosses me right out, lol. But the flying poop didn't bother me in the [sign in to see URL] what were we talking about again?

Oh [sign in to see URL] in Crossed I didn't think it was so much that it was gory (which it is, and well detailed in full colour) but the situations and characters involved with it. I don't want to ruin anything much, but at one point there is a father, mother and daughter all being mutilated/tortured/killed by a gang of Crossed. The image is horrifying, but its really the moments leading up to it that really make the stomach churn. You know? Anyway, if you can find it go for it! I recommend [sign in to see URL] they had a few in stock when i ordered it.

Okay, so happy today! IDW finally put Monocyte #1 up on comixology (the print version has long been sold out and seems difficult to find any copies) and it's only $2!! I think it's absolutely fantastic. Such an amazing art style. Its so gothic and bleak. Kinda like Ben Templesmith and Ashley Wood mixed together. Really well written, poetic even. I'd put it right up there with Hellraiser as the best comic i've read this year.

Also, Batman #3 was really great, this new Batman series is really kicking ass. If you aren't reading it, you should be!

If you're not reading Monocyte you are really missing out! Crazy good comic with insane art. There's a lot of Ashley Wood fans here and I think you will all dig the style. He even does an extra cover for #1. Also the Artist and co-writer, Menton3 is a one man band called Saltillo and he is releasing a trip-hop album on the 7th that acts as the soundtrack to the comic.

Also, the team that made Incognito and the Criminal series (Brubaker and Phillips) have started a new series with Image called Fatale. Its their typical noir style fused with hard boiled detective and lovecraftian horror elements. So far it is awesome!

Batman #5 is one of the best written/designed comics in a long time. The Court of Owls storyline is really shaping up to be a classic batman tale in my opinion.

Anything else out there to be on the look out for?

Thanks for the recommendations, Bensetsfire! Will definitely check out Monocyte now. I`ve been reading Batman as well, haven`t gotten Issue 5 yet on Comixology.

I am enjoying my usual titles. I`ve been enjoying Scalped, The Walking Dead, 20th Century Boys, and Largo Winch. I also caught up with Jason Aaron`s Punisher Max... Bullseye takes Frank`s left pinky!

Batman #5 is hard to read using Comixology cause you need to turn the pages around, sideways and upside down to read it. It makes sense when you get there. #5 is the best in the new Batman series by far. Scott Snyder is really becoming a fav of mine now.

I'm annoyed by the digital version of Monocyte #2 though, there was supposed to be 2 bonus stories at the end written and drawn by others - but they aren't there. #1 has them, but not the 2nd. Not sure what the deal is. The print version is 36 pages long but the digital one is only 26 or 28. Not impressed with that. Hard enough to find the print versions as it is, now i am being forced to find them. tsk tsk. Oh well, this comic will be worth picking up the trade.

Thanks for the heads up. In that case, I'll have to wait for the Monocyte trade.

I was just doing some clean up in my really messy study, moving around some dusty Neca TMNT figures and I found a pile of graphic novels I hadn't read yet! Amongst the pile were Okko and Cowboy Viking Ninja! Man, too much clutter piling up everywhere. emoticon

Haha, yeah it seems every time I buy something new I realize I have a bunch of stuff i've yet to even touch. Be it games or comics or movies. My 'to-be-read' pile of comics is at 6 right now. And it's going to be getting deeper too cause I haven't been keeping up with Walking Dead since [sign in to see URL] I think. What's it up to now? Ugh, I just realized i've got 4 books i've yet to read from x-mas. Big one's too. Going to need to take 2 weeks off work just to catch up.

A sample from the Monocyte soundtrack performed by the artist on the comic, Menton3.

Such a good CD.
