First wave of the Transformers Henkei figs are out

The TakaraTomy versions of Hasbros Classics range have just been launched in Japan.
They have different color schemes than their US counterparts and even though some of the chromed parts look a bit dodgy (esp Grimlock) they generally look a lot more faithful to the G1 cartoon than the Hasbros. Here's a link to pics of the first wave,

I think Megatron is the best of the first wave, followed by Prime,Starscream and Bumblebee. I got Henkei Bumblebee a couple of days ago and he's excellent, the chrome spoiler is a bit crappy but I've removed it to make him look slightly different to Cliffjumper when in car mode. I can understand not wanting to buy the same characters again but I only got back into TF's late last year by which time most of the Hasbro Classics had disappeared from the shelves so the Takara versions have come at just the right time for me.

You're lucky then BCM! So, are there any diecast parts on these guys?

I love these Classics guys, they're great. I only bought the Deluxe ones or the bigger ones, not the little Jetfire, etc.

Mirage is really awesome, great range of articulation, long body. Optimus is my fave out of them all, great poses! I wasn't really a fan of Jetfire as a robot (he just seemed a bit stumpy), but seems I'm in the minority.

No diecast parts, just the different paint schemes.
I like the poseability on Mirage but he's a bit pinheaded in robot mode so I'm not sure if I'll get him and I think Prime and Megatron will be the next ones I get. I also want to get Starscream and Astrotrain which is one of the next to be released alongside Hot Rod. I disliked the Hasbro Astrotrain as I thought the color scheme was dull but the Henkei version is dark grey/black like the G1 cartoon and looks a lot better. Hot Rod doesn't look a whole lot different to the Hasbro one to be honest and if you already have the first one it's not really worth paying out for an expensive import unless you're a completist.

Cool repaint! I actually like the silver bits on Cliffjumper like his paint job is all scratched up after battle.

I always wished they made Bumblebee looking a bit more VW bug like...

How much do the Japanese versions go for and where are you getting yours from?

Also, where is that cool Cliffjumper's gun from?

The Cliffjumper repaint is not my work,I got a guy from one of the TF sites to do it for me and it's really cool, the wheels have also been done in a chrome effect paint and I'm going to get him to do the same with Bumblebee.
I got my Henkei Bumblebee off ebay from someone who was just selling the one but there's quite a few sellers with them at present. I paid something like £17.50 shipped for it so whatever that is in Canadian currency. The gun is a cast of a custom made piece that I got from another customiser who originally made it to use for the shoulder missiles on the Alternators Smokescreen but I think it works equally well with Cliffjumper. If you want one let me know as I still have a couple of spare unpainted casts.
I also wish Bumblebee was more Beetle like but a combination of Takara's unwillingness to make a slight change to the accessories for 1 toy in the line and VW's policy regarding the use of their cars likenesses means it's not to be. When the Binaltech/Alternators line started Takara wanted to make Bumblebee as a New Beetle and based on the proto sketches that surfaced it would have looked awesome. Then VW took exception to the fact that Bumblebee was to have a gun like the rest of the toys in the line and they refused to let their car be associated with something they deemed "war like". And they aren't the only ones, the Binaltech/Alternators Jazz was originally set to be a Porsche Boxster and a proto was even made but Porsche adopted the same policy as VW so Jazz instead became a Mazda.

That's cool, thanks a lot for the info!

Btw, would you know if they're going to continue the line somewhere down the line? My last figures were Jetfire & Grimlock.

My son loves Astrotrain, but I don't think he holds up as good as the others. I love this line all these others as they're really fun to transform and play with.

Also wanted to say thanks for the offer on the gun, but it will be fine!
