HBO's Game of Thrones

Has anyone watched Game of Thrones the new HBO series that just wrapped for Season 1 ? It started slow but got really good especially as it introduced mythical creatures ? The writer George RR Martin ( a bit Tolkienesque don't you think?) has written A Song of Ice and Fire 3 continuing novels and the series is following the first one. The series is not returning till Spring 2012 which is too long of a wait for me so I was wondering if anyone has read the books ?

Watched and reading Hunter D1! The show follows the books closely, but the book is really good. Better than other fantasy I've read in recent years.

I just hope George Martin doesn't die before he finishes his books... I think he has three or four more volumes to go and if you've seen making of documentaries, he's quite... old looking.

Heh, I'm just a big geek! If you guys ever read or watch something cool, please do share your thoughts as well, so that I may check it out!

Amazon has a special price for the four books. Instead, I bought them for slightly cheaper on Kindle (for my iPod touch), but honestly, nothing beats having a book in your hand, imho.

The cool thing about this series is no one is really 'bad.' Everyone just does what they need to do to survive and they are all who they are because of stuff that happened to them...

The series is written in an interesting POV style, so one chapter will be on Bran's perspective, one will be Neddard, one will be Tyrion Lanister, etc. It really works too.

Kaido your in good company ! Us Geeks rule ! And I agree with you on regular books versus Ebooks. I care about tree's but I will remain old school on printed Novels as long as their available. One thing is also fueling me to read these books, aside from seeing Khaleesi's dragons grow and what lies beyond the ice walls and thats to read of Prince, now turned King Joffreys death. I have not despised a character this much and a child nonetheless, in a long long time. And with the brutality of the stories I know it won't be pleasant lol. Thanks for the info on Amazon, but it's at the Borders near my job and I have a discount card so Monday season 2 of Game of Thrones will start for me !! emoticon

Haha, yes, Joffrey does a great job as the little !@#$! He was also in Batman Begins, the little kid who Bats gives his binoculars to...

Ned's fate was decided in the first episode when they found the dead direwolf with the stag's horn stuck in its throat.

As for whether the entire novel was chronicled, I don't know for sure, but I'm sure most of it was. Watch Jamie Lanister (the good looking brother) further develop as the series goes on.

I never even caught that...awesome.

Seriously, i don't think TV has been this good in general in a long time. Basically ever since the X-Files ended there hasn't been a single TV series to really draw me in and hold on to me, and now we have Dexter, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead all at once. If only they brought Arrested Development back...

Episode 9 totally broke my heart though. My brother swears he doesn't care anymore after you know who gets 'a head' of himself...

But then they totally crushed me with the other awesomest character in the show (who is also playing Conan in the new movie) is taken out as well.

Game of Thrones is ruthless with its characters and i think it is what really makes it a great show/book/series. Pretty much the same reasons i love the Walking Dead comic (hope the show follows the comic in that regard) with the ruthlessness.

So where are you at with the books now, Hunter D1?

Bensetsfire, check out Breaking Bad, watch the first couple of episodes. It is a wicked awesome show. The best, imho. Though I haven't watched Arrested Development or Dexter...

Arrested was amazing. Dexter is amazing as well. Game of Thrones is an absolute treat in every way. But i think my heart lies with The Walking Dead for TV shows. I still have to check out Breaking Bad though, as well continue with The Killing. Also Kaido, check out the show Louie, it is probably the funniest and harshest show i've seen in a long time, at least since Arrested. If you are familiar with the stand-up of Louis C.K. then you'll know what this show is going to be about. Its written and directed by him and is so brutally honest about life that is almost cringe worthy sometimes, but utterly hilarious as well.

I really think this is the best era for active TV shows in a long, long time.
