Re: Breaking the addiction - Cutting back on toys discussion

Sorry to be a downer, but yeah, it happens. Some of you know this story, I made a trade for a figure with him and he seemed really friendly. Lots of PMs back and forth as we were waiting for our figures. Then suddenly, less and less PMs from him. Then of course, my figure was 'lost in the mail.'

Another time, I was on the GI Joe forums and there was this nice kid who was on there almost every hour of every day, complimenting our pics, talking about how excited he was of his new purchases. He was there for months! Then he started 'trading figures' and a month after that, board members started to complain that he hadn't shipped out his figures yet. Turned out he just ripped everyone off. Since they had his mailing address, they actually got in touch with this kid's dad who paid everyone back.

Even some really cool members here who were uber awesome contributors with their own super awesome toy blogs turned out to be big frauds who were ripping off fellow collectors from other sites, or ripping off unsuspecting people from eBay.

Just be careful, friends!

Yup, can never be too trustworthy. I lost some things to thru "friends" that never bothered to reply.

Got scammed too (big mistake on my part)

But end of the day, I just look on the bright side & move on. A couple of toys for finding out what a person's true character is like & for learning a lesson in life to become smarter? Totally worth it. emoticon

Cheers guys emoticon

You guys are my friends online, but if you ever were in town, DON'T contact me, k? emoticon

But in all seriousness, I've experienced that online is online, real world is real world. I thought I made a true friend once from online on another toy forum... I gave him a lot of personal info... I'm sure at the time, he was cool and really was a friend. I even met up with him when he was in town. But inevitably, we then lost contact, and he doesn't even return emails now anymore. He also 'owes' me about $300 (I bought on his behalf a bunch of vinyl figures) but since he was a friend, I haven't chased after him even though I've seen him several times since then. Life goes on.

I think you should have hit me up during your HK visit! I would have gladly grabbed a drink with you...

Not a joke anymore, had a big serious budget chat with ma wife tonight... gotta pay off grown-up stuff. Though I've been cutting on toys, I've been buying a lot of games recently and also a mountain of graphic novels... spending addiction, I need to do something about it! emoticon

Hear ya. I've canceled every figure pre-order for the last 2 years. Just canceled Hot Toys Capt. America.
The only one I've not planned to cancel, no matter what, is HT Superman. Been wanting a great Chris Reeve superman figure since 1978...nostalgia wins.
