Bandai Thundercat figures

Hi everyone, I recently bought many of the Thundercat figures that have been made by Bandai. These figures are based on the new cartoon (the cartoon is pretty cool). There is also a retro line of figures as well that I did not collect.

Bandai made two toy lines based on the new cartoon, a small 4 inch scale one and a larger 6 inch scale (or thereabouts).

I'll talk about the smaller scale line first. I have all the 'good ones,' namely Lion-O, Wilykit, Wilykat, Panthro, Tygra, Mumm-ra, Grune and the Lizard with lizard cannon.

They are close in scale with one another, so Panthro is bigger and taller than Lion-O, etc. Sculpt and paint apps on these guys are nice, but the joints on these guys are a bit loose and the articulations vary wildly. Some figures have lots of joints, some are really simple. Wilykit & Wilykat seem no better than a McDonald's prize toy. Cheetara is the worst of the lot. A cut joint at the wrist and ankles would have made these figures so much better. Then the other bad thing to say are the weapons are made of a very bendy plastic. Clearly the target market was aimed at young kids; the weapons are terribly bendy, ruining the aesthetic of the figures.

Of all the figures in this line, I'd only recommend Panthro, Tygra, Grune (more like a statue than a figure, but he looks cool), Lion-O (really bendy sword, it sucks!), and Lizard (no weapons at all, but it's a cool design), in that order. I guess you can get the rest if you're a big fan or want to just complete the team (but then you'd also need to buy the $30 tank which comes with Snarf).

The bigger line fares better. I have super-powered Mumm-ra, Lion-O, and Panthro. QC wise, these guys are on par with Mattel's He-man line, some loose joints which do not hinder playability too much, and are pretty nice, with extra interchangeable hands and accessories for different posing/playing options. Their weapons are kind of bendy as well, but not as bad as the smaller line.

So, I will continue picking up the larger figures if they continue to make them but I've already passed the smaller figures on to my kids to play with.
