Diamond Comic Distributors

Hey guys, I've heard of people buying/preordering products from DCD, but Im at their website now and I dont see how you preorder items. am I missing something here? When I click on an item it says to print out the page and take it to my nearest authorized comic shop for them to buy it for me.

is this the correct site www.diamondcomics.com where you can order GG mini busts etc ?

Sorry I can't be much help on this Nash, as far as I was aware you can only preorder from Diamond through your local comic shop.

A few years ago there was a Spider-Man statue I liked and I went to my local comic shop and they put in a special order with Diamond for me. I'm not sure if you actually can preorder as an individual collector.

Anyone else know this?

Re: Diamond Comic Distributors

Wohoo something I actually know something about.

Diamond is the only distributer for comics and comic related merchandise. The only way to order directly from them is to be a retailer with a diamond account. You can however order products they distribute through your Local Comic shop. Either print the item page from thier site or locate it in the previews magazine that Diamond puts out every month. A new volume of Previews ships this week.

As far as discounts go, well that is up to your shop. Diamond to my knowledge gives them a discount on whatever they order. Some shops require you to have a pull list with a certain number of titles or for a certain ammount of cash a month to qualify for any type of discounts. This will vary from shop to shop so ask them directly to find out. Diamond has a Comic shop locator if you are unaware of all the shops in your area. I have like 5 around here and 4 of them suck. So its always best to look around.

Hope this is helpful. If not ask other questions and if I have an actual correct answer i'll respond. Otherwise I'll keep my mouth shut so I dont look like an idiot. Lol.

Serp that is awesome info thank you.

Vice, im kicking around the idea of opening a "wholesale" account with them to potentially hook myself and friends up with good deals on products that they offer. From what I've heard from someone on RS with a Diamond account, he gets anywhere from a 30 to 40% discount off of retail price from Diamond for having a wholesale account.

If I could get something like that, i'd hook all of you up. I'll give them a call and find out more info.

They can be a pain to get an account with.
You will need a tax ID #. They want to know that you actually have a store or a website.
Selling on eBay doesn`t cut it with them either.
There is a minimum monthly order you have to maintain as well (a little over 400 a month, if I recall correctly).
The discounts vary by item (Comics, toys, etc..) and some are set up in tiers (purchase XXX amount, get XX% off, the more you purchase, the more off. This is mostly for the comics part though).

It`s not impossible to set up an account with them and not have a store, just a huge pain in the ass. Meeting the montly minimum can be a pain too, if you are just buying for yourself and some buddies.

Re: Diamond Comic Distributors

Diamond isnt doing anything to help the comic industry with thier crazy minimum orders and what not. Comics are required to make a certain ammount of money in order for Diamond to carry it. And with the insane ammount of adds that go into most comics these days that increase the weight the fact that diamond doesnt pay shipping also doesnt help matters.

Like sith baker said while not impossible to be a non retailer and open up a Diamond account it would be a giant pain in the ass.

But hey if it works out for you thats great. Good luck man.

Re: Diamond Comic Distributors

After digging around the Diamond site heres the basic run down.

Discpunts range from 35-59 percent, depending on the order.

You monthly minium order has to be 425 dollars this is before any discounts.

Ordering Product

There are two easy ways to order from Diamond. In both cases, all orders are non-cancelable and non-returnable:

I. ORDERING COMICS

As a retail business owner that plans to offer comics and other merchandise on a regular basis, you can place monthly "Initial Orders" from our Previews Order Form for items scheduled to begin shipping two months in the future. (i.e., the February catalog is for items that start shipping in April.) Pre-ordering gives you the best pricing on the widest range of merchandise, and the greatest accessibility to "hot" product.

    * There is a monthly pre-ordering minimum of $425 (prior to any wholesale discounts). Items with retail prices count at full retail towards this minimum, while net priced items count at cost.
    * Discounts will vary with the amount of your monthly order. Generally, the more you order, the higher your discount.
    * You must complete a full Diamond Account Application. (Please allow a minimum of two weeks for the processing of your Application, at which point you will receive an Account Number and be assigned a Diamond Customer Service Representative.) New businesses are usually set up on a C.O.D. basis, with extended payment terms possibly available after six months.

hmm, yeah that does sound like a pain in the ass. I wish they had a quarterly minimum instead of monthly. I mean, what if there's no new products that Im interested in, then i'd be forced to buy !@#$ that I will just flip on ebay?

Thanks for the info guys.
