Re: Hot Toys - CMS - Wind and Cloud: 1/6 Striding Cloud

Cool, Storm Riders figures!

Will they make Wind later on?

Like the one on the left more, but looks like the version on the right is limited.

Updated Beast X's original post with emoticon ' official pics.

Several years ago, I acquired a pair of the Brothersfree or Brothersworker Storm Rider figures, have u guys seen or heard of them? They have the really stylish faces Brothersworker is known for and the outfits are quite nice. However, they come with these huge halberds which they can barely hold with their bendy finger hands. I can do a shoot of them if anyone's interested.

Actually Kaido, if you will be so kind, can you please upload some pics of your set? Haha it doesn't even have to be a fancy shoot, I was just curios how they look. I've never heard of anyone doing anything on this series besides Enterbay's attempt on the live action version a few years back...and that didn't turn out well...not for Wind anyways lol

Many thanks~~

Hi Xirality, here's an image of the pair of them... as you can see, they have the trademark 'monkey' looking face that Kenny Wong/Brothersfree are known for (like their Brothersworkers figures).

Image

The ones I have are the special editions so the markings on the grey guy are faint and glow in the dark and the markings on the evil pink brother is gold paint (if I recall correctly).

Honestly, I forget their names (Yik Zhen and Yik Ye?) and I've no idea what role they play in the series either, are they comic relief, side story characters, completely invented just for the figure and just say they're part of the Storm Riders universe, or side kicks to Wind & Cloud? Anyone who knows Storm Riders (or can read Chinese), help me out here!

I will try my best to find time and dig them out this weekend and do a little shoot for you buddy!

(ok this is actually the 2nd time I'm typing this, grrr...as earlier when I hit the submit reply button the site coincidentally underwent maintenance and nothing was saved)

The red/pink dude is Yi Xie, Xie means evil while Yi doesnt really have any meaning. Best way to explain it in english is that, it's sort of like a First Name.

The grey dude is Yi Zhen, Zhen can stand for justice or righteousness depending on how it is used.

I read some Storm Riders in the early days right until their sons grew up and started fighting. But I've never came across these two characters though.

emoticon What JuN said. I might also add that their names can be combined to form a common saying, 亦正亦邪, meaning [something] is "either good or evil". Two-face from Batman would fit this description perfectly.

Yi (亦) means "also" or "maybe".

Zheng (正) means "justice" (the first figure, the good counter part).

Xie (邪) means "evil" (the second figure, the bad counterpart).

So this pair's combined name is kind of like a pun, just like the names of many other characters in this series.

With that said, I haven't gotten to the point where these characters show up so I don't know what purpose they serve (or if they are even there at all).

I tried reading this from the very start. As far as I know (and I don't know a lot), the series kept on going past what the movies covered. It just keeps on going like Berserk. In fact, this thing went on for so long...with so many characters...that the name was later changed from 風雲 (the original name meaning "wind & cloud") to 天下, literally meaning [that] which is "below the heavens". This was a common way for the ancient Chinese to address their homeland before any foreign influences. Not sure if this change is also a way to include other series into one...like what Marvel did with the Avengers by eventually combining like freakin' everyone in the Marvel universe.

This figure is a more updated look of Cloud. I asked my brother and he said something along the line where Cloud was frozen and was re-awakened some time later so his hair is all white. I don't know...

Oh and thanks for shedding some light on this figure set Kaido emoticon

Thks for expanding on it, I totally didnt think of the 亦正亦邪 part.

Anyway, I stopped reading Storm Riders because it became a pain to keep up with its bi-weekly releases.

And their stories just kinda became boring. It was always, someone learning some new martial arts to fight someone or to find a new powerful sword.

I couldn't agree more. When I was a kid I started out with the first live action movie so I really appreciated the detail, art direction and the back stories when I finally started reading the original comics in college. Then it dragged on for way longer than it should so I just gave up. But it was fun while it lasted because the new skills and swords were pretty awesome.

@topic: Does anyone know of any retailers here in the States side that are taking preorder for this figure at MSRP? This looks like an Asia exclusive...

Thanks~~

EDIT: Nevermind, Alter Ego Comics has this guy's preorder price at 10% off. Can't wait to 'til it ships emoticon
